Smriti Zubin Irani, the Union Minister of Textiles, unveiled the ‘Fabric of Unity’ on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in Gurugram on Wednesday. The minister also flagged off a unity march and administered a unity pledge to the office bearers, the staff of Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) and students of Apparel Training and Design Centre (ATDC).
Speaking on the occasion, the minister referred to a Rs 6,000 crore package launched by the Government of India in 2016 for the growth and development of the apparel and garment sector and to bring in more skilled labour in the organised sector.
She recommended the AEPC to spread the concept of the fabric of unity in its offices, which will be considered a real tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The minister also urged the AEPC to put together the entire history and the textile designs of the then princely states, which were united into the Indian Union by Sardar Patel.
